The Manatee-Sarasota will sponsor a 2-mile Turtle Walk with Longboat Key’s Turtle Watch 6:30 a.m. July 10 to search for new turtle nests. Participants are welcome to join the group for breakfast afterwards. Donation: $5. Reservations are required by July 8. Information: 752-3200.
Kayak Trip – Thursday, July 21 9:00a to 12:00p
at Sister Keys launch, Longboat Key, FL
Enjoy a quiet-water kayak trip around the Sister Keys at Longboat Key. All kayak equipment is provided and is included in the cost of the trip, which will be led by John Sarkozy. Island Trolley ridership up first quarter
Any doubts that tourism for Anna Maria Island’s 2011 season was lower than last year were likely dispelled last week, when Manatee County Area Transit released passenger figures for the Island Trolley.
Longboat Key Trolley prevails, but loses frequency
Longboat Key ranked No. 2 among North American islands in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2010 Readers’ Choice Awards. The ranking, slated to appear in the travel magazine’s November issue, was based on a survey of 25,916 readers. Respondents evaluated island destinations for activities, atmosphere/ambience, beaches, friendliness, lodging, restaurants and scenery. Longboat Key scored 80.3 out of a possible 100 points.
